First year high schooler Midori Asakusa loves anime so much, she insists that “concept is everything” in animation. Though she draws a variety of ideas in her sketchbook, she hasn’t taken the first step to creating anime, insisting that she can’t do it alone. The producer-type Sayaka Kanamori is the first to notice Asakusa’s genius. Then, when it becomes clear that their classmate, charismatic fashion model Tsubame Mizusaki, really wants to be an animator, they create an animation club to realize the “ultimate world” that exists in their minds.
Things of note:
- The opening, “Easy Breezy”, is already predicted to be a nominee for Best Opening in the 2021 Anime Awards. Keep an eye out during it, you might notice a fun reference!
- Gives a behind-the-scenes look at the animation industry in Japan, both the good and the bad.
- Directed by Masaaki Yuasa and animated by the studio Science Saru
- This animation studio was formed after Yuasa directed and wrote the episode “Food Chain” for season 6 of Adventure Time on Cartoon Network!
- While a young studio, Yuasa and his team have made a name for themselves already with award winning films like “Night Is Short, Walk On Girl” and “Ride Your Wave”, as well as the hit anime series “Devilman Crybaby”!
