Roy Belliveau Collection - World War II Scrapbook Images
Roy Belliveau joined the United States Army on February 7, 1941 and was assigned to the 57th Signal Battalion, 121st Radio Intelligence Company. He spent the next five years training and getting ready to join the war in Europe. In 1942 he trained in Iceland, then was sent to England in 1943 where he spent over a year training. In October, 1944 he arrived in France and from there took part in campaigns in Belgium, Holland and Germany before coming home to Chicopee, Massachusetts.
Belliveau was born in Holyoke, Massachusetts on April 15th, 1919 and grew up in the Willimansett section of Chicopee. He returned to Chicopee after World War II and married Claire Gosseline, also of Chicopee, on November 26th, 1946. Belliveau became an accomplished artist, photographer and illustrator and spent his working career as a professional commercial artist, winning numerous awards for his artwork. Belliveau returned to Europe in 1956 with his wife and toured many of the same places he saw during the war.
